OHAU GRAVELS
Just north of the Kapiti Coast in New Zealand’s lower North Island pioneer winery Ohau Gravels is producing exciting, elegant wines with intense fruit flavours. For centuries the Ohau River has been laying down deposits of gravel creating the stony, yet fertile soil needed to produce high quality grapes and award-winning wines.
For Barry Clevely and fellow directors Dave Munro and Hallam Cresswell the development of the vineyard has achieved what they had once thought was an unattainable dream, far removed from their careers based around construction and property development. They have refocused their experience and professional expertise into a new industry and have had the added pleasure of becoming involved in one of the most exciting and rewarding pursuits of all, growing vines, making wine and then enjoying the fruits of their labour.
